Vermicomposting:Decompostion of biodegradable into a good quality manure with the help of earthworms is called as vermicomposting
Vermicompost is nothing but the excreta of earth worms, which is rich in humus and nutrients, we can rear earthworms artificially in a brick tank by feeding these earthworms with biomass and we can produce the required quantities of vermin compost.
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF VERMICOMPOST
Bio degradable wastes like crop residues, weed biomass, leaf litter.
DIFFRENT STEPS INVOLVED IN VERMICOMPOSTING

1.collection and separation :This phase involves the collection of wastes, which involves mechanical separation of metal, glassand ceramic storage of organic wastes.

2.Digestion of organic waste:In this process the organic waste is partially digest the material making it fit for earhworm consumption,Cattle dung and biomass slurry is used after drying .wet dung should not be used for vermicomposting production

3.Preparation of earthworm bed:A concrete base is required to put the waste as loose soil will allow the worms to get into the soil. Also while watering, all the dissolvable nutrients go into the soil with water.
4.Collection of Vermicompostimg: The completely composted material is separated from the partially composted one vermicomposting bed for complete composting.

5.Storage of vermicomposting: Harvested vermicompost should be stored in cool, dark place with a minimum 40% moistures. The vermicompost should be stored in proper place to maintain moisture and allowing beneficial microorganisms to grow .

NUTRTIVE VALUE OF VERMICOMPOST-The common available nutrients are Nitrogen ,phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium and Megnesium,Copper,Iron,Zinc.
BENIFIT OF VERMICOMPOST
Nutrient rich media serves as an excellent fertilizers to improve the fertility of the soil
Microbial activity of vemicompost is higher than the soil and organic matter
Free from pathogens, weed seeds, toxic elements ,it prevents the nutrient loss
NOTE: selection of the suitable earthworms,The African worms(Eudrillus euginia ) are much Preffered because it produce the higher production of vermicompost in short period of time
Selection of sitable location:Vermicomposting process require shaded place to protect worms from excessive sunlight and rain
Selection of containers:Cement tanks are constructed to a height of 2.5feet width 3 feet and with the length depending upon the size of the room
Worm food:compost worms are big eaters, they eat almost anything organiclike biodegradable waste such as cowdung ,farm waste, crop residues.
Moisture level is maintained at 60-70%.
