What is Damping Off…?

IPS Gardening Aug 24, 2020

Most of you will be worried about your plants falling when they are in sapling stage/ seedling stage?

And you may not be knowing the reason behind that fall off of mini plants of yours. That is called “Damping off”. You might be thinking about the solution to this problem. There is a product called DAMP-OA which is the best solution for this problem.

This damping off is caused the fungus- Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Phytopthora species, which is most common at younger stage seedlings. Most of the vegetables and flowers are affected by this damping off problem. Young leaves, roots and stems of newly emerged seedlings/sapling are highly susceptible to this fungal infection. Infected tissue becomes soft when the water content is completely filled in that.

It is usually seen in two stages like

Pre-germination stage Post-germination stage

When it comes to pre-germination stage, the seedling is killed usually at initial stages before it comes out of soil.

When it comes to post-germination stage, the seedling will fall off and the fungus causes stem rot, root rot there by causing the death of the sapling/ seedling.

For this problem you can take some precautions like-

  • Avoid over watering your plants especially during evening times.
  • Don’t place your plant under shade.
  • Use well drained soil or potting mix, add more of sand that facilitates better drainage.
  • Use proper spacing to your plants.

For this damping off, the best solution is DAMP-OA.

Let’s see the dosage and usage:

Mix 5 gram of Damp-OA in 1 litre of water, stir it well and the solution is ready for drenching (soil application). This is the only medicine that is applied to the soil. Its just need to poured into the soil just like watering. There by it enters the soil and kills the fungus.

When you see the disease symptoms, you can go for drenching once after 15-20 days of sowing. Through this you can avoid fungal infection to your plants at early stages/ seedling stage/ sapling stage.

If you follow this, I assure you that your plants will be free from this fungal attack and will grow successfully.
