Grow Green to Keep your City Clean

Gardening Sep 09, 2020

We are now living in a city where the greenery is reducing and garbage is increasing at an alarming stage! If not taken care of green and garbage now, our next generation should see the pile of waste instead of greenery around!

According to recent research conducted, in Bengaluru, 5000 metric tonnes of waste is generated/ day (Which is a lot!) on an average of 0.5 kg/day/ per capita waste production. Out of which only 10% of waste is recycled. In the waste generated, 55-60% is the biodegradable waste, which can be converted to Manure/ Green gold!

Likewise, yesteryears, Our Bengaluru which was called ‘Garden city’ had a green cover of 68% in 1973 came down to 25% in 2012, which has only 6.46% in 2017! Yes!! we have lost our greenery about 1005% times in about 40 years and are still counting!. In this pacing ‘Silicon city’ starting to grow Green vegetation in available spaces like terraces/ Balconies/ Vertical space (I mean to say buildings, which has eaten up our vegetation!) can be a great way to balance a little of the destruction phase are moving into!

The regular kitchen waste that is being produced, need not go into the Dustbin, instead put into a composter!

Kitchen waste composting using Earthern Kambha

Composting and Gardening when going hand in hand, this can work out for urban people in lot many ways:

  • Garden can bring happiness, peace, mental stability, a relaxation to your body and mind
  • Growing edible plants can give us good, tasty and safe food
  • Composting and gardening can help in Growing more plants
  • Compost can be Fed to the plants which are giving food to us
  • Composting can make our surroundings a cleaner place to live in
  • Can Breathe Fresh Air

Few green Terraces In Bengaluru!

Benefits of these two activities can be still listed out more and more….

This is what, it is called “Giving back to Nature”

When our one little step can bring a lot many changes in our surroundings, which can help a lot to our future generation, why don’t we take this small initiative to see a better tomorrow!
