PEST MANAGEMENT

Pest Managment Sep 12, 2020

Hai Hello My dear garden lovers today I would like to give some information regarding Pest Management….

PEST:

A pest species can be any species that humans consider undesirable. Any organism that reduces the availability, quality, or value of a human resource can be classified as a pest.

Pest management is therefore a means to reduce pest numbers to an acceptable threshold.

Methods of control can be categorized as Synthetic, Biological, Cultural, Physical/Mechanical, or Genetic.

Today I would like to tell you one of the control measures i.e., Synthetic medicine

The major insect pest that can be found in the Garden are

Caterpillars, grubs, borers and semi loopers, Sucking pests like aphids, thrips, whiteflies, mites, bugs, hoppers.

1.Caterpillars are the larvae of butterflies or moths, they have generally green or black elongated and soft body. They damage the majority of the vegetable crops causing serious economic losses.

• Young caterpillars chew/ bite the leaves from underside, however the upper part stays intact.

• Large caterpillars also damage the flowers, fruits and young shoots

• Certain species bore into the fruits and stems, which are hard to detect and control

Measures taken is Mix 1 gram of cat pillar- IMMB in 1 liter of water, mix it well and spray

METHOD OF APPLICATION

The granules should be dissolved completely in the water then sprayed on entire surface of the plant such as leaves ,stems, fruits etc… including under surface of the leaves.

When disease symptoms are observed, give spray to plants at 15 days interval to obtain healthy crops.

Advantages by spraying cat pillar- IMMB

  • Helps to obtain quality yield without any infection
  • Nutrient quality of the crop can be maintained
  • Loss of crop due to caterpillars can be prevented thereby increases the quantity of yield
  • No residual effect on fruits or leaves

2. Mites are tiny, and have bulbous, round, or pill shaped bodies. Their size varies by species, but most of the mites are usually invisible to the naked eye.

  • Measures taken is Mix 2 ml of mitex in one liter of water, mix well and then spray the solution over the entire plant surfaces including stem.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

  • The mixed solution should be sprayed on the entire plant surface including under surface of the leaves. When you observe the insects and symptoms, you can go for the spray. Generally it can be sprayed once in 20 days interval to prevent these insects and to have healthy crops.

Advantages by spraying Mitex-A1

  • It is biodegradable and non-ionic.
  • Improves the quality of vegetables and fruits.

Sap sucking pests like aphids, thrips, whiteflies, bugs, hoppers these pests act as vectors for viral diseases and cause serious yield losses by sucking the cell sap from the plant leading the host plant stunted, curling, distorted, yellowish.

Measures taken is Mixing 1ml of sap suck MAST in one litre of water and the diluted solution to be sprayed on the plant.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Sucking pests pierce plants with slender, sharp-pointed mouthparts and suck the plant sap. Removal of the sap results in minute white, brown, or red spotting on the leaves, fruits, or stems of the plant. When these symptoms are observed, MAST can be applied as a foliar spray on both sides of the leaves of the plant. The spray to be given at 2 weeks interval to prevent the attack of sucking pests.

Advantages by spraying sap-suck MAST

  • Increase in the yield level without any residual affect
  • Reduction of sucking pests.
  • Protection of crop loss.

A major Advantage of Synthetic pest control is its efficiency.

Most Synthetics act very fast and when selected properly they are highly effective in eliminating the pests. Synthetics  can be used in controlling or killing specific pests in a farm. Controlling pests becomes more efficient when Synthetic method is used.
