Terrace Gardening Experience of Customer Lakshmi Nemmani
Customer Gardening Story Feb 09, 2021
How did my gardening journey start?
I always admire nature, surrounding greenery which is soothing for both body and mind. At a period of when trees are cut for urban development, I used to really feel sad for mother nature. Wherever I had been staying, I used to maintain 2 to 3 plants for greenery purpose. Now that when I have little land space in my house, I am growing flowering plants like Hibiscus, Nandhya batlu, kanagala hoovu , doddapatre etc.,. and 2 years ago, I had a good yield of chow-chow vegetable too. I always prefer pesticide free home grown vegetables because of the nutritious value it carries. The idea of growing vegetables on the terrace came to my mind only after seeing my friend Rajarajeswari’s terrace garden. Again, because of the monkey menace since 8-9 years back, and the very thought that I had to go to the terrace daily for watering the plants if I have them, were mentally blocking me. Taking in the positive spirits that it is going to help me with physical fitness, and the freshness of the home grown vegetables, I decided then to try the terrace gardening myself to get a first hand feel of it, my husband was of full support in my venture. I started with my family-preferred vegetables like carrot, tomatoes, beetroot, radish, cucumber and a few greens, and fruits like guava, orange and sapota.
How I came to know about My Dream Garden?
This is through my friend Ms. Rajarajeswari who is into terrace gardening, also a customer with My Dream Garden & co. Her garden has been my inspiration to start with.
How is gardening helping me?
Gardening also needs a lot of focus in taking care of the plants, but one can carry it out with fun and enjoy the process. It helps with the hand-eye-mind coordination, and is a great stress reliever. I enjoy talking to plants, seeing the plants growing in front of you gives a lot of happiness and gratification that it brings into my life. Sometimes my family members water the plants, exhibit their happiness in the plants’ growth and the yield. Strolling in the midst of plants gives freshness and relaxation. All of us enjoy the freshness and taste of the produce. Gives a good exposure to sunlight, vital for the body in the morning.
How is the yield, and my gardening experience with My Dream Garden?
I had a good number of fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, radish, chillies, beetroot etc. The gardeners visiting our place are friendly, very supportive, encouraging and are very patient. The staff and the research associates have been very supportive in clarifying our queries. The potting mix is very good. The planters though costly, help in the circulation of fresh air, and growth of the plants.
How am I managing my time for gardening?
Being a freelance psychological counsellor by profession, managing both home and profession, gardening helps me relieve my stress, helps me manage time efficiently. I take 45min to 1 hour in the morning, and spend some time in the evening in the garden.
Am I able to maintain my garden on my own?
It needs a lot of focus and dedication. My terrace garden is around 4 months old now. By experience I am able to handle a few things, but professional help is required.
Thank you Lakshmi Ma’am for sharing your Journey with My Dream Garden
